Links N’ Junk 5

Apple: I’ve long said that Apple’s OS software and computer are woefully flawed. But I’ve also been preaching the gospel of the iPod. The iProducts is probably the most powerful contribution that Apple is offering to enter-tech. That being said, maybe the iPhone is more than a dream.
Art: I love and hate great designers. Love them because they inspire me and hate them because their design solutions are so obvious yet so complex. Either way, here’s another couple design wizards: Milton Glaser and Neville Brody.
Theology: Speaking of wizards, Mike talks about his own Gandalf and how everyone needs a wizard in his or her life. I couldn’t agree more.
ThatsGood2Know: Here’s a nice site for researching projectors and comparing them. Many people don’t need a projector; the few who do will love this site.
Random Junk: I’m sure you’ve heard the date: every year there are more car related deaths and injuries than plane related deaths and injuries. I’ve never found that comforting since I’ve survived fender benders but I doubt I would survive a fender bender in the sky. Be that as it may, here’s a link that shows the relative risk of shark attacks on humans. One relative risk is the chances of getting bit by a rabbit in New York. Though, like the fender bender, I think all my limbs would survive a rabbit attack. That is unless it is no regular rabbit and actually the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent I have ever set my eyes on. Do I even have to link to the reference?
Tek: What do you tink…too junky to be fake?
Obnoxious Iconography

Not that kind, this kind:

I hate myself for doing it but I keep seeing sites with these little icons like “Firefox Rules” or “I Am A Blogger” or “BlogLines4Ever” or “Pro-BLOG!” so I figured I’d jump in the action with some icon for me and the Geek Friends. Feel free to download them and display them on your blog. Or if you really hate icons:

The Smurf Movie: Dark Blue
Posted by Rey
The Greek mentioned in yesterday’s Smurf discussion an upcoming trilogy previously under the working title of Smurfs Return. I have managed to get an inside scoop via my deep connections in the industry. I don’t want to divulge any information about my secret source, but he’s definitely in the know. We’ll just refer to his last name (Spielberg) to keep his identity secret.
Smurfs vs Hobbits
Posted by Rey
Recently MCF posited a scenario: Smurfs vs. Hobbits. After several submitted articles across a very small corner of the blogosphere, the results came in with most voting for Hobbits due to their size. Many would say “they can crush the smurf, forthwith.” MCF on the other hand stood with the Smurfs and pointed out that most hobbits weren’t even adventurous stating that the books listed a mere 5 that ever dared out of the Shire. Smurfs, with both alchemy and adventure on their side, would overcome the Hobbits. Despite MCF’s sloppy research, I will look at the data and see who truly would win in a battle of Smurfs versus Hobbits.
Match Point

Any reader of MCF’s site will immediately become aware of a passive paranoia and an actively nourished neuroticism. It makes his nick of the world wide web all the more entertaining and thus has us seeking for more. He’s great, he’s incredibly funny and always engaging—and it’s always great to see him turn red under the collar. I see the side he doesn’t post and am constantly drawn to scare him…
I Would Rather Die…

Samurai (bushi), Ancient Japan’s military elite, would rather die in battle than get caught and bring dishonor to their master. In some cases, this death would come by their own sword by performing seppuku, a ritual suicide by means of cutting the abdomen not reserved for the Battlefield but not restricted from it either. The Samurai, while following the Bushido, lead a life of respect, honor, loyalty and ethical conduct so falling on their sword was a sign of extreme honor. Or so they said. They were people after all and sometimes people get funny.
Rey’s Reviews: The Summer Season

I’m getting fat. After eating way too late and sitting down for an hour and a half of solid commentary reading, I wind up laying on the sofa looking at something. Sometimes Something is playing at the same time as Something Else so I wind up DVR’ing it adding to my increasing weight. Feeling the need to be productive I start writing this review of summer shows with a caveat: there will be spoilers.

What happens when you take all of your personal information and stuff it in an RFID chip? Epassport coming to a country near you.
Wal-mart embraced RFID quicker than most. Plans to merge with Skynet Google have yet to be announced.
Apple and Nike plan make huge strides in Ipod tech.
Buying a car? Make sure to do some research and to check on any consumer issues. And remember, don’t buy the extended warranty from the dealer: they mark it up. Do some research and deal directly with a warranty administrator! (That’s the word from Officer Byrd—well, never mind.)
Is your website optimized? Do you even care? Well, your users might.

The first is a shot I took a few nights back around midnight. I had the exposure sorta high so it might look like the sun. The second shot is my son’s artwork. Or cakes. He was baking (with sand) and set this up on the brick partition in the back of my house. It’s so artsy that I had to shoot it. I didn’t resize them right so part of it might cut off.
The Bugs Strike Back
Posted by Rey
I can’t believe it. After several failed attempts at my home ( and my blog, curse them) the bugs have launched a soft-target campaign. I guess they realized that the bug spray I put down was a bit too hefty (although it hasn’t stopped them from breaching my air space). Instead they have unearthed a specialized squadron focused on a slash and scorch campaign. Here are some pictures with story.
