MCF’s Blog Party: Returns

MCF askedWhat are the best things in your life that have returned?” for his blog party. Well, Jesus didn’t come back yet though I’m waiting. I never had a pet that could get lost to begin with: fish seldom run away from bowls. The books that people have borrowed remain borrowed. I haven’t even had any near death experiences (that I recall anyway). Heck, I’m not even aware of family members having near death experiences. If they did, they usually got too close and had a complete death experience.

General’s Journal: A Bug’s Life

Colony Date 1,657,234. Hour: Bright
The Human Male Drone has been active. In the early Bright, we’ve noted a repeated watering of points of incursion along the perimeter of his colony. There’s no soil there or plants so we have found it all very perplexing. Said activity began after the Queen Human and one of her larvae discovered that Bravo-squadron Earwig Division (B.E.D.) had successfully infiltrated their sub-level. After the Male Drone finished watering, our troops felt a nearly overwhelming desire to attack. Wisdom overruled our unified hunger; we must feed our home before attacking theirs.

Superman Returns

There are people who will write a point by point review of Superman Returns while linking to actor names and obscure references (coff: Mcf). I just want to document the thoughts and feelings I had before, during and after watching the movie. This post does contain spoilers.

Scare Tactics

It’s strange that I love scaring people. See, I was often afraid being exposed to Jaws (still afraid of the Ocean), Devil Dog (okay, it stank but that was a long time and it was a hell hound!), and the Exorcist (despite the effects, sleep went on vacation for 14 solid days and I still can’t watch the movie). I’ve also found it strange that sometimes, when the Question was put before me (Scare or Not To Scare), that I have scorned familial relationships for the sake of elaborate set-up hours to get the Perfect Scare.

Links N’ Junk III

With maps, cell phone access, satellite imagery and (now) helping us shop Google is definitely integrating itself into our daily lives. I can’t wait until Skynet Google launches so I can mark the date down in my google calendar and share it with gmail.

Speaking of integration, do you still have a .MAC account? I always thought it was odd that Apple would charge for something that you can get anywhere on the web for free. I was wondering how much it costs since I couldn’t immediately find that info on Apple’s site.

Some kids dream up some tech to hand over to their liege: Bill Gates.

I really have to get a handle on CSS so I can make some gorgeous tableless stuff that doesn’t show up in some browsers. Despite that, design shack is pretty cool.

Safari out of the box is a joke. But with Pimp My Safari you can make it (somewhat) functional. Too bad the only one I really need costs cash—unlike Firefox which is all free.

Bryce Zabel thinks back about 2004’s plans to reboot Star Trek (HT: Jeremy). I just read the pdf (it’s on my box too) and was blown away. Well, we’ll see how the next movie is with JJ Abrams at the helm (not of the Enterprise).

Flight of the Conchords are both funny and extremely talented. One of them has quite a fan following from his brief appearance in the Lord of the Rings: dubbed Figwit (Frodo says “I’ll take the ring” and the female audience is thinking “Frodo is great—who is that!?!?” when the camera pans briefly by him. He’s actually supposed to be Aegnor or so They say.) Warning, some of their material is sensitive and I thought the Figwit reference needed some rounding out.

MCF’s initial attempt at web traffic returns.

Update: Hugh Jackman gets punk’d.
