MakeUp Your Mind

As a designer I find that sometimes I get really snooty about things that deal with color and structure even if it’s an area that I know very little about. I may not have that certain finesse to thematically tie a room together, but I’ll tell you what colors look right on the walls. That being the case, I’m going to post some info on makeup.

Numbers Comments On Lost (with Spoilers)

Tonight on Numbers, Charlie Eppes (childhood math genius now young, dynamic genius professor/mathematician) made an interesting statement that I think relates nicely with Lost. In this episode a soldier’s family was kidnapped to bring the soldier out of hiding (for some reason: presumably revenge). The Soldier came out of hiding to hunt down the kidnapper (presumably to get his family back then kill the kidnapper). But for some reason, the kidnappers weren’t killing the Soldier, just stringing the Soldier along. Eppes points out how the math is all wrong. Statistically speaking the Soldier should’ve been confronting his kidnappers already, and have been killed: yet he wasn’t dead. What’s going on?

Creating Character Emotions by Ann Hood

With my nightstand off balance from the amount of books unevenly distributed on its warping surface, I normally wind up taking some notes on what I’m reading, just in case everything topples over and throws off my reading. Sometimes with those notes, I decide to post them online–specifically at the Bible Archive and on Amazon.com. Some books, though, don’t fit well in my Bible Blog, so I’ll post the reviews over here. Today, I’ll be putting some notes on Creating Character Emotions in a format that highlights the Point of the Book, what’s Good, what’s Bad and what’s (usually aesthetically) Ugly. Afterward, in my conclusion, I give it a rating plus a recommendation on how to handle the book.

From The Lips of Babies

"Sy, climb up because this may be your last chance."

"Huh? Why is it his last chance?" The little girl that who had just apparated didn’t seem at all concerned with asking me a question on a topic that didn’t concern her but I felt I should explain anyway.

"The thing is that this place costs money and I don’t know when we’ll be back here. It would better for him to climb the jungle gym now than wait."

"You know, you are Spanish and I can’t understand anything you’re saying."

"…Well…you do know I’m speaking English…"

The little girl shrugs and scampers off.

Doomed to Cancellation?

Recently one of my favorite shows, Jericho, was pulled back from the brink of the cancellation abyss. It was one of those shows with a small loyal following, which gets canceled then comes back harder, better, faster and stronger. Unfortunately it didn’t get to that point until two episodes before its demise and thus ended prematurely and embarrassingly unsatisfactory. There are a couple of new shows which might suffer such near-future humiliation.
