Quacking Around

During our visit to Florida we stayed at my parents’ house and was increasingly impressed (for lack of a better word) by the décor. My mother is both an artist and an odd duck (ahem) so her tastes vary. For instance, one of her rooms proudly displays some of me and my brother’s artwork which consists of illustrated insanity (I might put up a picture of MakeShift some day). The décor I’m talking about has nothing to do with our violent illustrations but rather the ducks all over the place. I could let them speak for themselves…but I won’t.

Honestly, why are they looking at me like that. I wake up, sit down to have some Corn Flakes and they’re staring at me from the centerpiece. Why ducks?!?!

This one is right next to the stove where we cook all types of meats; methinks a tad sadistic. Poor thing looking at its cousins become chow for some lumbering oaf human.

Oh, remember the centerpiece on the table? This is right above your head covering the window (so that the blinding Floridian Sun doesn’t boil paint and skin) looking down at the Eaters. (Update: Thirsty, in the comments, pointed out the fact that these two are in fact geese and not ducks. Once again, I prove myself a heretic and for that I truly apologize. Avianism, obviously, is still alive.)

This is in the bedroom right over the mirror. It’s all so Hitchcock-ian Birds with a dash of Poe’s Raven. “Prophet!” said I “Thing of evil; Prophet still if bird or devil!”

You’re bathing, removing the sleep from your bleary eyes and turn towards the frosted glass and there it is; a duck watching you. It doesn’t say a word and you pray it doesn’t plan to.

And as you step out of the shower to brush your teeth, there’s another one on the counter, staring and waiting. All these ducks have a darker purpose, I assure you.

This one was hidden in the living room and its ominous quack echoed in my imagination.

I don’t mean to be devisive, but the two big birds in the third picture are geese. I hope you’ll take this correction as a gesture of love from a brother. Confusion of ducks and geese is nothing but the ancient Avian heresy.

Why do I constantly hear Gilbert Godfried in my head? Why??

It sounds like thegreek is suffering a terrible Aflaction….

    Sorry. :)

David: That is the best comment ever and I’m truly wrestling with using “nothing but the ancient Avian heresy” over “the token non-reformed blogger” on the Bible Archive’s quotes sidebar.

TheGreek: Did you know the Tiki Room is under new management? Aladdin’s Iago.

MCF: That was painful. But I know of a Thirsty Theologian who pulls that sort of thing every Saturday, so I forgive you as I forgive him. ;)

I can always use a little more forgiveness. Thanks.

Yes, I did. A nice update. I was sad when I first heard the news, but I like the way it was done.
