Emma

“Her name is Emma.” Sy was looking out the window from the backseat of my car when he said that. We were driving back from school and it was after those momentary breaks in conversation where both parties aren’t worried about the break, just musing on their own thoughts.
“How do you know that?”
“I asked one of the kids during recess.”
“How did you go about asking that?”
“I said ‘what’s that girl’s name?’ and the kid said ‘Emma [Name-Omitted]‘. Actually he gave me choices. Emma [Blank] and another two Emma’s (he said Four Emma’s). But I knew it was Emma [Name-Omitted].”
“Oh.”
“The first time I saw Emma was the first day of school. I tried to find out her name but I couldn’t find it. But Emma is in Mrs [Fillintheblank]’s class. Her last name is [Name-Omitted].”
“Is Emma pretty?”
“Yup. She has long hair. I only saw her doing the jump rope or the swings (since I noticed). She’s started to run away.”
“From who, from you?”
“Yes, that’s why I can’t catch up with her. So sad. If I don’t find her, and don’t get her next to me—I won’t have a band!”
“Why does Emma have to be in the band?”
“There has to be two girls: she has to play the electric guitar to make us famous. If I don’t get a band I won’t have famous music. Why am I NOT gonna’ have a band without Emma [Name-Omitted]?”
“Oh.”

They grow up so fast(and get a handle on the music industry).
For me it was Stephanie [name omitted], and she was the girl in my elementary school A-Team(Amy, the reporter that helped Hannibal, Face, BA and Murdock). I was Hannibal, BA was white, Face was Indian, and Murdock wasn’t that crazy or foolish, but then I worked with what I had.
Were his exact words really “so sad”? That’s like adorable and heartbreaking at the same time.
