Five Books Meme ::Sigh::

1. One book that changed your life:
To all you cheats, no…not the Bible. That’s an omnibus with sixty six (or so) volumes in one. That being said, I’ll have to go with Romans. It gave me a full picture of my depravity, the need of a savior, my inability to work to merit salvation, and the ultimate end of God keeping me to the end by the power of Jesus Christ through faith.

2. One book that you’ve read more than once:
I can’t say Lord of the Rings because that would be an omnibus of six in one books. Also I will make a concerted effort not to repeat any of my previous answers so I have to winnow down my options to a one shot book. The answer then is Dune. It doesn’t force me to read the rest of the series, it stands on its own and it’s not two books in one.

3. One book you’d want on a desert island:
Let’s see, I’m on a desert island and I get to pick a book to go with me. It won’t be Dune and although I love Romans I’ll need other books to make the time worthwhile. Nah, I think I’ll take I’ll go with How to Survive Anything, Anywhere by Chris McNab.

4. One book that made you laugh:
Wicked…I can’t pick Hitchikers Guide since it’s a Trilogy of Five books–and that was hilarious! I’ll go with A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking.

5. One book that made you cry:
I will become the ultimate source of ridicule, rivaling MCF. My answer is Love Comes Softly.

6. One book that you wish had been written:
Falling Short of God’s Glory: An Analysis of all Theological Frameworks and Their Shortcomings by Rey’s A Heretic

7. One book that you wish had never been written:
Chosen by God (Sproul). What a joke. If I could get through Pink I would blame him but beside that the Prayer of Jabez. Ugh. I won’t even link to them.

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read:
Holes (Newberry). It sits on my shelf while I devote time to my yearly Tolkien reread.

10. Now tag five people:
The line is drawn here!

  1. Love Comes Softly?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

    You nancy-boy!

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Sorry. Actually, I listened to that several years ago in audio. I can’t remember what I thought, but I did listen all the way to the end. I’m pretty sure it was drivel, but I must have liked it a little to do that.

I do want to read Holes some day. The movie was great, and I despise people who watch movies instead of reading. I am sooo much better than they.

  2. Thank you for drawing the line. And haven’t you done this before? Or some variation of it? That’s the trouble with Memes…they mutate and spread and return in slightly modified forms. Still, they can be seeds for some original answers and insight into the blogger answering.

  3. If I did it before, I’m sure you MCF would be the one to find it. ;)

Thirsty, I have yet to see the movie Holes. I’ve been wanting to see it but wanted to read it first so that I can make nasty comments about how the movie falls short and taht I am sooo much better than the directors and screenwriters.

And I deserved the laugh, pointed finger and the sing-song nancy boy. I really do. Especially when I had to read the sequels.

  4. I did not read or listen to the sequels. I guess that makes me better than you. However, if you read Holes before seeing the movie, you will be in a position to mock me even more than I mocked you.

  5. What this teaches me is I need to read more life changing books.

I’m glad MCF reminded me to check you out again:)

  6. BTW, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy IS one book. The four sequels that Adams later wrote were collected into our Omnibus edition as The Hitchhiker’s Trilogy, as a play on the late author’s style of humor. Which reminds me I’m only half through the fourth book and really should finish that omnibus…

Oh, and of course™ I found the post where you counted the bible as one of five books that meant a lot to you, and immediately pointed out that it’s 66 and changed your answer to Romans. :)

  7. Everyone:
I knew MCF would find it. Knew it..but can’t find my Trademark symbol for the PC.

    MCF:
Actually, Hitchikers was originally a radio broadcast series that’s plot became central to the first two books of the Hitchikers series. Originally it was a trilogy (when the third book came out) but then when the fourth book came out it Adams called it a trilogy in four parts. Same with the fifth book.

    Janet:
Don’t trust MCF. But thanks for the blogroll add. You’ve always been on mine, awesome bloggerette.

    Thirsty:
Oh I will make fun of you to no end, mark my words. Insert ridiculously over-the-top evil laughter here.
