My first reaction was “Come on! Couldn’t they have found a better theologian to represent the Christian point of view than Rick frickin’ Warren?” Then I thought about the current state of theology and realized that, sadly, no… they couldn’t.
I thought the same thing then, after reading it, I was pretty surprised. Not only did Warren do a good job, he batted a few right back at Harris.
I was with Darrell, but as Rey said Rick did a not too bad job all things considered. And the two men are equal in one sense. They both represent the pop-culture pinnacle of their respective stances and I don’t think that either speaks for the majority of those who are serious about their respective stances. Or is that two senses?
Also:
1) He shouldn’t have ended it with Pascal’s wager.
2) He shouldn’t have brought up all of the deaths that atheism “caused” since that’s pretty bogus.
Yep. And I didn’t like the Harris wager of getting a bunch of Christians to pray for one thing either and thus “proving” Christianity wrong. Those two citations were like two opposing bum-rush attacks right into some straw dummy.
