With maps, cell phone access, satellite imagery and (now) helping us shop Google is definitely integrating itself into our daily lives. I can’t wait until Skynet Google launches so I can mark the date down in my google calendar and share it with gmail.
Speaking of integration, do you still have a .MAC account? I always thought it was odd that Apple would charge for something that you can get anywhere on the web for free. I was wondering how much it costs since I couldn’t immediately find that info on Apple’s site.
Some kids dream up some tech to hand over to their liege: Bill Gates.
I really have to get a handle on CSS so I can make some gorgeous tableless stuff that doesn’t show up in some browsers. Despite that, design shack is pretty cool.
Safari out of the box is a joke. But with Pimp My Safari you can make it (somewhat) functional. Too bad the only one I really need costs cash—unlike Firefox which is all free.
Bryce Zabel thinks back about 2004’s plans to reboot Star Trek (HT: Jeremy). I just read the pdf (it’s on my box too) and was blown away. Well, we’ll see how the next movie is with JJ Abrams at the helm (not of the Enterprise).
Flight of the Conchords are both funny and extremely talented. One of them has quite a fan following from his brief appearance in the Lord of the Rings: dubbed Figwit (Frodo says “I’ll take the ring” and the female audience is thinking “Frodo is great—who is that!?!?” when the camera pans briefly by him. He’s actually supposed to be Aegnor or so They say.) Warning, some of their material is sensitive and I thought the Figwit reference needed some rounding out.
MCF’s initial attempt at web traffic returns.
Update: Hugh Jackman gets punk’d.

I’ve never used Google calendar. Is is good?
It’s nice in that it allowed me to import all of my calendar files from outlook and ical. With the desktop gadget (sorta like mac widgets) you can update things from your desktop and it synchronizes the calendar online. I wish I didn’t have to have a “gadget” to do that sort of thing and have like a direct link to google calendar with ical and outlook but that’s like imagining no barrier between macs and pc’s. I do like that you can synchronize it with your cell phone so that it sends you text messages when you have an appointment or a To DO list for the day.
What’s ical?
it’s one of apple’s stinky i(needa)life products. it’s basically a very weak desktop calendar that allows apple to say “we have cool software for our computer”.
I’ve had a mac account for a long time. Sometimes I get it free, sometimes I pay $99 a year. Why do I do it? Email size is greater, easy online storage (if you are working somewhere and have internet, you have storage—this has saved my bacon a couple of times. And then there’s integration. My macs, phone, ipod, and computers at work can share bookmarks, email, contacts, calendar, podcasts. Yeah, I pay, but I receive value.
Jim, I’ve been trying to find out: how much email space and storage do they give you now? Like a few years back it was a 100 meg but I don’t have a clue what they offer now and if it’s like a combined package (like 1 gb total: 500 on email / 500 on server).
Any info would be most appreciated!
