Yes, Olympic Fever is in the air and everyone with half a broadcast lineup is spending part of their evenings or afternoon skipping NBC or at the very list, mindlessly staring at cool footage online when they should be working. Be that as it may, I have here compiled the list of the Oddest Olympics Events of 2008 (if I were to say ever, I’d offer the Live Pigeon Shooting event, but that’s another post). Let’s begin (and let me rant right now and say I can’t believe Paintball isn’t part of the Olympic games yet):

1. Synchronized Swimming: You would’ve thought that this event would’ve gone the way of the Tug-O-War Olympic event (what a way to throw in two for the price of one, eh?). But no; we still get to watch 104 women swim in synch probably to the Miss Piggy musical number.
2. Water Polo: You’ve played it for fun in the public pool. Nothing beats watching a team of thirteen battle in a pool. The weird part is when a couple of them go around playing “Marco-Polo”.
3. Badminton: Yeah it’s fast. Yeah radar guns are marking exactly how fast. But there’s probably nothing sillier than watching a badminton game of mixed doubles with pairs calling each other “Muffy” and “Charles”.
4. Handball: Okay, so imagine a couple of dudes chatting around an open beer. If it helps you imagine it better think of Chandler and Joey. They come up with a game that you play on a basketball court, with Soccer nets on the left and right and you throw the ball by feigning underleg throws and what not. They laugh–it’s better than Fireball! Next thing you know it’s an Olympic event. I can’t believe Paintball isn’t Olympic yet (rant part two).
5. Trampoline: It’s More than a game…it’s life. I gotta admit that the flips and stuff is pretty cool. But basically this is a sport that kids wanting to grow up to become Jedi’s finally got approved in the Olympics. (Paintball! Rant Part three!)
