“Not enough server storage is available to process this command.” error.

You’re on Windows XP. You can see your computer on the network. You can even see its shares. But you can’t access it on the Network. Instead you get a mysterious error saying you may not have enough network privileges to access the network share and that there is not enough server storage available to process your command.

  1. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
  3. In the Advanced Settings section, clear the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) check box.
  4. Click Start, click My Computer, and then locate the folder or drive that you want to share.
  5. Right-click the folder or drive, and then click Sharing and Security.
  6. On the Sharing tab, click Share this folder.
  7. To change the share name of the shared folder or drive, type a new name in the Share name box. Other users see the new name when they connect to this shared folder or drive. The actual name of the folder or drive does not change.
  8. To add a comment about the shared folder or drive, type the text in the Comment box.
  9. To limit the number of people who can connect to the shared folder or drive at the same time, click Allow under User limit, and then type the number of users.
  10. To set share permissions on the shared folder or drive, click Permissions.
( To share folders and drives, you must be logged on as a member of any one of the following groups: Administrators, Server Operators, Power Users)

  19. Restart the computer.
  20. If you still can’t access machine on Network Click Start, and then click Run.
  21. Type regedit, and then click OK.
  22. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
  23. In the right pane, double-click the IRPStackSize value.
Important: If the IRPStackSize value does not already exist, you will need to create it:
    – In the Parameters folder of the registry, right-click the right pane.
    – Point to New, and then click DWord Value.
    – Type IRPStackSize.
Important: Type “IRPStackSize” exactly as it is displayed because the value name is case-sensitive.
  24. Change the Base to decimal.
  25. In the Value Data box, type a value that is larger than the value that is listed.
  26. If you created the IRPStackSize value using the procedure described in step 4, the default value is 15. It is recommended that you increase the value by 3. Therefore, if the previous value was 11, type 14, and then click OK.
  27. Close the Registry Editor.
  28. Restart the computer.
  29. If it still doesn’t work change the value of IRPStackSize even more up to a maximum value for Windows 2000/XP of 50 (0x32 hex)

  1. lol: I wondered who would post that comment first. I actually thought b13 would do it.

As it is, I did have some major networking issues with my mac (being that the default share was anything in the public folder and I wanted specific share areas) that required that I use third party software (sharepoints) to bring back old Mac functionality. Still having issues with getting it to allow file overwriting but I’ll post a breakdown on that when I (ever) manage to get it to work.

  2. Scott is quick… and smart. I thought you knew better Rey.

I’ve been to busy with GTAIV lately ;)

  3. I’ll have to let my son know that Macs are practically perfect in every way…

His Mac is currently being used as a doorstop, since it stopped working, for the second time, just out of warranty.

I’m sure the news will be very consoling.
