Terminator: TSCC Season Opener

Spoilers after the jump.

Most of the episode was standard “oh noes are good terminator went bad!” Nothing cool was revealed until they finally got back on story track with two, maybe three main points.

  1. Point 1: John Connor approaches soldier
  2. Point 2: Van Exel is only alive because the Devil is using him to track the Connor’s
  3. Point 3: A T-1000 model!!! Catherine Weaver (Shirley Manson) True to form it has a penchant for cruelty.

All in all, a fun season opener promising some good shenanigans.

  1. I thought the opening sequence was VERY promising, the song and the slow motion echoing the Johnny Cash ending last season(echoing, but that one was much better of course). Still, Summer Glau is AMAZING and I probably should have seen what was coming but honestly didn’t. I loved the slow motion on the horror the Connors were facing, and the normal time as Cameron limped her way Schwarzenegger-style presumably to the rescue. Then that display with the single “TERMINATE” was a real holy crap moment.

The middle was just a basic chase that could have been in any episode, though the fact that it was CAMERON added to it. Again, Summer was AWESOME when she pleaded with John. She not only plays a great machine, but a great machine emulating a human and it’s creepy.

And finally, I didn’t know what was up with that woman other than she was paving the way for Skynet, so the morphing was the supreme holy crap moment of the episode. Thank you FOX for renewing the series after only 9 episodes and spending the budget to have a T-1000(T-1500? upgrade?).

Unless I missed it, they didn’t really show how the dude in the beginning died, did they? It’s just sort of implied by the way John is acting and the stuff his mom is saying that John probably killed the guy to save her, and it’s his first kill?

  2. I haven’t watched the show, just wanted to leave this barely relevant comment: I keep seeing commercials for the show and wondering who the redhead is, that woman who looks like Shirley Manson. Finally the curiosity got me to check IMDB today and, whattayaknow…

  3. B13: This week:
    Tuesday: Fringe, Privileged
Wednesday: ‘Til Death, Do Not Disturb
Thursday: Hole In The Wall, Kitchen Nightmares
    Friday: Don’t Forget the Lyrics
    Saturday: MadTV, SNL

The only one worth watching this week is probably Fringe. ‘Til Death is good for a quick watch.

MCF: I loved the opening sequence and it gave me high hopes for the episode until it became a standard chase. Pshaww. I liked when they zapped her under the Holy Water (How funny is it that the Devil that works for them was shorted out via that medium) but that was only a hiccup in a very boring chase. I mean honestly, why drive down a tunnel that you can’t turn around in? Do these people learn nothing!?!?

And no, they didn’t show how he died. But in all honesty, at first I thought his reaction was a bit much considering how much violence the kid has already seen. Then I remembered that most of his experienced violence wasn’t the upclose murderous kind. Like with the T-100 he told it not to kill and it didn’t. Anytime the T-1000 did his up close craziness John wasn’t there. I mean, he couldn’t see the thing propping his foster parent up with milk jug in hand and liquid metal gooze through brain cavity. We saw that.

And all in all, his reaction seemed to be more about his robotic love-doll than about bloodying his hands. He was really beat up about that.

Summer was freakish with her verge of tears but eyes completely dry cry “I love you!” I also like how pragmatic she is, telling Sarah “Don’t let him do that again.”

Darrell: It’s funny because Shirley Manson was done up to look exactly like the Terminator from T3 and I had a feeling they were throwing us off with her. Just so cool when her sadistic self morphed out of the urinal (of all things? I mean, what’s wrong with her?!? Or maybe it was a metaphor for “Piss on me, I get pissed off?”…who knows)

  4. I don’t think that was John’s first kill. After he stops the girl and they are getting patched up Sarah is asked if John saw everything and she replies Yes. The “uncle” replies damn. I think Sarah killed him.
